The Malaysia Educational Psychology Society (MEPS) is pleased to announce the successful participation of several members in the Indonesia-Malaysia Educational Psychology Academic Roundtable, held recently at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung in Indonesia on 17th May 2025.
This significant academic collaboration represents a milestone in fostering cross-border educational psychology discourse between Malaysia and Indonesia. The roundtable was organised in partnership with the Indonesian Educational Psychology Association (APPI), West Java Region, reflecting both organisations' commitment to advancing educational psychology research and practice across Southeast Asia.
The roundtable facilitated meaningful dialogue between experienced practitioners, emerging researchers, and motivated postgraduate students from both countries. Distinguished panel experts engaged in discussions covering contemporary challenges and innovative approaches within educational psychology frameworks. The academic discourse encompassed diverse topics including culturally responsive pedagogical practices, assessment methodologies, and intervention strategies tailored to regional educational contexts.
MEPS was proudly represented by our distinguished members:
Mr. Teow Chean Khai (MEPS President)
Dr. Hue Chi Yin (MEPS Vice-Secretary)
Dr. Muhammad Syawal Amran (MEPS General Committee Member)
Dr. Wirawani Kamarulzaman (MEPS 2024 Vice-President)
Participants gained valuable insights into the comparative landscape of educational psychology between Malaysia and Indonesia. Whilst acknowledging distinct operational frameworks influenced by respective educational policies and cultural contexts, the roundtable revealed remarkable convergences in theoretical foundations, practical challenges, and aspirational goals within both educational systems.
The collaborative sessions highlighted shared concerns regarding student wellbeing, inclusive education practices, and the integration of technology in psychological assessment and intervention. Furthermore, discussions underscored the universal applicability of evidence-based practices whilst recognising the importance of cultural adaptation in implementation.
This academic exchange serves multiple purposes for MEPS members and the broader educational psychology community. It provides opportunities for professional networking, research collaboration, and the development of comparative research frameworks that can enhance understanding of educational psychology within diverse regional contexts.
The initiative also supports MEPS' strategic objectives of internationalisation and knowledge exchange, positioning Malaysian educational psychologists within the broader Southeast Asian academic community whilst contributing to global conversations in educational psychology.
