The support group started way back in September 2018 with only few members. Our aim was to gather as many Educational Psychology graduates on the same platform and strengthen the support for our profession.
The page was then created shortly after the support group's existence with the hope to reach out and educate the masses what we do in our field.
In our effort to grow the society amidst the pandemic, we had our first online "Meet and Greet" session joined by four new members. It was fun learning how each used their Master's certificate in their respective professions.
Members Recruitment for ROS registration
We started to recruit and welcome members into our society.
We were joined by nine new members for our second Meet and Greet session. We distributed a Google form on our Facebook page to gather more members as we want to register for ROS and gained close to 40 responses. The number of attendees may be little but it was fruitful. We hope to have a greater number of turn ups in the near future.
We conducted our very first Annual General Meeting in December 2021 and our committee members were selected.
Finally, MEPS were officially registered under Registrar of Society (ROS).
We had the inaugural general meeting after the MEPS was officially registered under ROS. About 40 educational psychologists, students, and educators attended the meeting.
The MEPS bank account was opened in the Maybank Klang branch. By completing this procedure, MEPS members may proceed with their membership application.
MEPS has participated in the Program Saringan Penentuan MBPK JPN Selangor organised by Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Selangor.
It was a meaningful experience for public-private collaboration with an emphasis on understanding and nurturing the unique learning needs of every student, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
On August 15, 2024, MEPS and ABRIR (Advancing Big-team Reproducible Science through Increased Representation) joined forces to offer a free workshop on Open Science and Big-Team Science. The event was open to everyone, attracting students, lecturers, and researchers interested in research collaboration.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Brendan Ch'ng, who shared insights on how engaging with Open Science and Big-Team Science practices could help increase Malaysian researchers' visibility in the fields of psychology and education. The workshop provided opportunities for attendees to discuss ideas on how they would like to participate in big-team science projects. The event was well-received, fostering a collaborative atmosphere and encouraging open dialogue among professionals and aspiring researchers in the field.
This workshop also marks MEPS's first international collaboration, and we are laying the groundwork for a future where knowledge knows no borders, bringing together the brightest minds from around the world.
We are pleased to share that the first journal article by MEPS members has been published in the Public Service of Malaysia: Journal of Psychology and Counselling.
This qualitative study entitled: 'Voices of Educational Psychologists in Malaysia: An Inquiry into Roles and Challenges through Interviews' serves as one of the first groundbreaking studies in Malaysia to explore and promote the standards of practice and research of Educational Psychology in Malaysia.
Feel free to check out the article or reach out to us!
We’re excited to announce the launch of the Quick Guide to Educational Psychology in Malaysia, which will serve as the foundation for our forthcoming official Handbook on Educational Psychology in Malaysia.
This document is a work in progress, meant to promote transparent public information sharing, encourage collaboration, and reflect the evolving landscape of educational psychology in our country.
🔄As a living resource, this guide will be continuously enhanced through the valuable contributions of our esteemed professionals, researchers, and key stakeholders in the field.
MEPS is looking forward to lead this transformative initiative, which aligns with our mission to elevate the standards of both practice and research in educational psychology throughout Malaysia. We cordially invite all members of our professional community to contribute their expertise to this landmark publication — interested parties should contact the Malaysia Educational Psychology Society (MEPS) at meps.connect@gmail.com
